It refers to many types of hazardous waste operations and emergency response conducted in the United States under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standard 1910.120 "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response." The standard contains the safety requirements employers and their sub-contractors or public sector responders must meet in order to conduct clean-ups or emergency response operations.
